There are several key factors that impinge upon your car’s safety. The brakes and steering are extremely important and most drivers are aware of this. But a lot of motorists are less aware of how important visibility is. It may seem extremely basic but being able to clearly see what is on the road is a fundamental of keeping safe. Despite this many motorists don’t pay very much attention to whether their car windows are clean and often don’t do anything if there is a chip in them.

Why is it important if your car windows are chipped?

A chipped window on your car is usually caused by a stone from the road impacting with the windscreen. Damage can be almost invisible through to a sizeable chip. If this is not fixed several things may happen including:

  • The interruption to visibility could cause you to have an accident
  • If left unrepaired it could become worse
  • If it becomes worse it can not only impact upon safety but could also lead to the complete deterioration of the windscreen if there is another impact or a sudden jolt
  • Car windscreens are designed to crystallise if impacted
  • If this were to happen suddenly while you are driving it could have serious implications for safety
  • Apart from safety it is considerably more expensive to replace a whole windscreen

Clearly it is in the interests of motorists to take pre emptive action when their windscreen is chipped.

What to do if your windscreen is chipped

If you have a chip in your windscreen, it is best to have it repaired as soon as possible.  If you fail to do so it could result in compromised safety and it could lead to the whole windscreen becoming unsafe and requiring replacement. Early action can save you money and keep your car safer. Most windscreen repair experts have an option whereby a small amount of a clear resin can be inserted in the chip. When this has hardened it becomes quite clear and the chip is almost invisible. The windscreen will have just as much structural integrity as a new windscreen. A relatively cheap procedure this can save you a lot of money further down the track, and will help ensure that your driving experience is as safe as possible. The main thing to do if your windscreen is chipped is to make sure it is fixed as soon as possible.  It will cost a lot less than you might think.
